Frequently asked questions

Can I feed the animals at both locations?

You are encouraged to feed the Giant Tortoises at Prison Island with the leafy greens provided by the rangers. however, it is strictly forbidden to feed the monkeys at Jozani Forest, as it can harm their health and alter their natural behavior.

What is the best time of day for this tour?

We usually recommend starting in the morning. Monkeys are most active in the cooler early hours, and arriving at Prison Island before the midday heat makes the walk around the ruins and the tortoise sanctuary more comfortable.

What should I pack for the day?

Bring a swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen for the island visit. For the forest, we recommend insect repellent and closed-toe walking shoes to protect your feet from roots and damp soil.

How long is the boat ride to Prison Island?

The boat ride takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes each way. The traditional wooden boats are motorized and offer a steady, scenic trip across the bay from Stone Town.
