Frequently asked questions

Are we guaranteed to see the Red Colobus Monkeys?

While they are wild animals, the Red Colobus Monkeys are very resident in specific areas of Jozani Forest. Sightings are extremely common (nearly 95% of the time), and they are often found playing or feeding near the main trails.

What kind of footwear is recommended?

For Stone Town, comfortable walking shoes or sandals are fine. For Jozani Forest, we recommend closed-toe shoes or sturdy trainers, as the forest floor and mangrove boardwalk can occasionally be damp or uneven.

Is the Jozani Forest walk physically demanding?

Not at all. The forest trails are mostly flat and well-maintained. The walk is taken at a slow, educational pace, making it suitable for all ages and fitness levels, including families with young children.

How long is the drive between Stone Town and Jozani?

The drive takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic. This gives you a nice opportunity to see the Zanzibar countryside and local villages as you transition from the city to the jungle.

Should I bring insect repellent?

Yes, because Jozani is a tropical forest environment, mosquitoes and other insects can be present. We highly recommend applying insect repellent before entering the forest and wearing lightweight, long-sleeved clothing if you have sensitive skin.
