Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to be near the monkeys in Jozani Forest?

Yes, the Red Colobus Monkeys are accustomed to human presence and are generally very peaceful. However, we maintain a respectful distance (at least 2 meters) and strictly forbid feeding or touching them to ensure their health and safety.

What should I bring for this tour?

We recommend bringing insect repellent for the forest, a camera for the monkeys, and comfortable walking shoes. If you are visiting during the rainy season, a lightweight raincoat or umbrella is a good idea.

Will I get to try a traditional Swahili meal?

Most of our tours include a farm-to-table Swahili lunch at the spice farm. It’s a fantastic way to taste how the spices you just learned about are used in authentic local recipes like pilau rice and coconut curries.

How long does the Jozani Forest walk take?

The forest walk, including the monkey viewing and the mangrove boardwalk, typically takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. The trails are flat and easy to navigate, making it a comfortable walk for most fitness levels.

Are there restrooms available at both locations?

Yes, there are basic restroom facilities available at the Spice Farm entrance and at the Jozani Forest National Park visitor center.
