Jozani Forest is the last remaining indigenous forest on Zanzibar and a vital
sanctuary for the island’s most famous endemic species: the Zanzibar Red Colobus
Monkey. Unlike other primates, these monkeys have no thumbs and are incredibly relaxed
around humans, allowing for fantastic photography opportunities as they leap through the
mahogany trees.
The tour also takes you through the groundwater forest, where you can spot Sykes’ monkeys
and rare birds. A major highlight is the Mangrove Boardwalk, which winds through a
salt-water swamp ecosystem. Here, you will learn how mangroves protect the coastline and
provide a nursery for marine life. It is a peaceful, educational walk that showcases the wilder,
greener side of the island.
