Company background

Fisherman Tours & Travel Ltd. opened in 1992 with five employees and two vehicles. The work was airport pickups and short island tours. The office is still in Chukwani, and the phone is still answered by a person who can name the hotel you are staying in.

The company grew into guided days across Zanzibar, day safaris to Mikumi, Nyerere and Selous, longer Tanzania journeys, and private transfers. In 2019 the desk looked after 31,359 guests. Fisherman Tours was named Best Tour Operator at the Zanzibar Tourism Awards in 2018 and again in 2019.

Safety, a clear price and a named contact are the rules. Zanzibar tours can be paid online. Safaris and packages stay as an inquiry until the camps and boats are confirmed.

Managing Director

A note from Ali Amour

We started so a guest landing in Zanzibar would have one local company to call. That has not changed. The island is busier now, and the parks fill up, so the job is to be honest about what is available and to keep the standard of the car, the guide and the boat.

If you write to us, a person on this desk replies. We would rather say a date is not possible than sell a day we cannot run properly.

General Manager

From the general manager

Reservations, guides and drivers sit in the same office. That is why a late flight can still meet a name board, and why a safari inquiry is checked with the lodge before anyone is asked to pay.

Tell us the hotel, the date and who is travelling. We will answer with a plan, not a catalogue. Petro Mpali handles most safari and tour questions once the file is open.

What the desk does

Zanzibar days

Stone Town, spice farms, reefs, Prison Island and village walks, booked as a day out from your hotel.

Safaris

Mikumi, Nyerere and Selous day trips, plus longer northern parks, confirmed with the camps before you pay.

Transfers

Prado TX, Alphard, a 20-seat Coaster and helicopter, each with a named driver or pilot.

Visa files

Tourist, business and invitation letters prepared before you fly. Immigration still makes the decision.

Questions we hear first

Where is the office?

Chukwani, Urban West, Zanzibar. The desk is open Monday to Friday, 8:00–17:00, and Saturday 8:30–13:00. Sunday is closed. WhatsApp stays on for guests who are already travelling.

Do you only sell Zanzibar tours?

Zanzibar days can be booked and paid online. Safaris and packages are an inquiry first, because hotels and parks have to be checked before a price is confirmed.

Who will I speak to?

A named person on the desk. Most guests end up with Petro Mpali, our safari and tour specialist, or with the reservations team in Chukwani.

How long have you been operating?

Since 1992. The company started with five people and two vehicles. It is now a full Zanzibar operator with guides, drivers and a reservations desk.
